AMD Not Yet Done With AM4, Ryzen 5 5500X3D Spotted Online

New Zen 3-based 3D CPU is on the way

The Zen 3 lineup doesn’t seem to end with the already existing Ryzen 5000 processors. Rather, AMD is trying to fit every kind of processor, covering almost all price segments. The newly spotted Ryzen 5500X3D is currently the slowest of all 3D CPUs but might offer incredible value in gaming.

The recent appearance of Ryzen 5 5500X3D on EEC filing is (Not) surprising

The AMD AM4 platform is roughly 8 years old and has seen several processor generations and several chipsets. Even after the launch of the Zen 4-based Ryzen 7000 lineup, AMD continued to deliver more Zen 3 processors. The latest example is the Ryzen 5 5500X3D, which is a brand new addition to the Ryzen 5000 chips series. The processor was spotted by X user, @harukaze5719 on EEC filing where it can be seen that the document was filed on 6th August.

EEC Ryzen 5 5500X3D listing

Among the newly listed AMD Ryzen 9000 processors, the Ryzen 5 5500X3D sits as the latest addition to the AM4 platform. It’s not the first time we saw the 5500X3D online. Last year in November, chi11eddog already wrote about it along with its supposed specifications. The user also mentioned the Ryzen 5700X3D and its specs before the official release.

AMD Ryzen 5 5500X3D is essentially an upgraded Ryzen 5 5500 chip with more L3 cache and slower clock speeds. As 3D chips usually have lower clocks due to the die design, it’s expected that the 5500X3D will be somewhat slower in some areas but will benefit incredibly from its 96MB L3 cache. The expected clock speeds are 3.0GHz/4.0GHz in base/boost mode, which is significantly lower than the 3.6/4.2GHz on Ryzen 5500. However, the core and thread count will remain at 6 and 12 respectively,

Currently, the slowest 3D CPU in the Zen 3 lineup is Ryzen 5600X3D, which is a Micro-Center exclusive and has poor availability. On the other hand, the Ryzen 5700X3D is available worldwide at a price close to $200, which is roughly $50 lower than its initial launch price. This could mean that AMD can price the Ryzen 5500X3D around $150 or lower, which can prove to be a difficult situation for the Intel Core i5 13400F and similar budget CPUs that currently fall in the $120-$180 price range.

The launch date and official MSRP of the Ryzen 5 5500X3D are still unknown but it’s possible we could hear about the new CPU from AMD soon.
