AMD Radeon RX 7800M Spotted in ONEXGPU 2, Plays Games with 60FPS Effortlessly

The RX 7800M is seen for the first time ever

AMD didn’t announce the RX 7800M officially but ONEXPlayer has used this RDNA 3 GPU for its new ONEXGPU 2 external GPU for great gaming performance. RX 7800M is the second fastest mobile GPU in the RX 7000 family and comes with 12GB GDDR6 memory.

Radeon RX 7800M runs God of War 4 at 60 FPS on QHD+ resolution

AMD’s RX 7000 lineup based on the RDNA 3 architecture does not have as good availability on laptops as NVIDIA’s RTX 40 series GPUs. We either have flagship RX 7900M GPU, which is available on a few high-end gaming laptops or we have the budget and mid-range RX 7700 and 7600 GPU variants for mobile platforms. The RX 7800 GPU variant isn’t officially available for laptops or any other mobile device.

This is the first time when the RX 7800M GPU is seen on an external GPU dock made by ONEXPlayer. ONEXPlayer manufactures a variety of mini-PCs, external GPUs, and handhelds. It has already released a couple of such devices in the past few weeks using the latest hardware such as the M1 Mini PC with Intel Core Ultra 9 185H processor, which can fit inside a loose pocket. Recently, the company uploaded a YouTube video, announcing its newest external GPU dock: The ONEXGPU 2, which offers the Radeon RX 7800M based on the Navi 32 GPU chip.

In the video, the company states the ONEXGPU as the “World’s First Graphics Card Dock Equipped with AMD Radeon RX 7800M”. The external GPU dock features a small form-factor enclosure with RGB lighting. There are plenty of ports for connectivity, including DP, HDMI, USB 4, USB 3.2, Oculink, LAN, and an M.2 connector compartment for 2280 form-factor SSD. The Oculink port is used for connecting it to a mini-PC like the M1 Mini PC, which can now leverage the power of Radeon RX 7800M instead of playing the games on the integrated ARC graphics.

The GPU was also benchmarked in the video, revealing the true capabilities of the Radeon RX 7800M. It was connected to the X1 Mini PC, which boasts the Ryzen 8840U processor. The PC was able to deliver over 60 fps consistently with ultra settings at 2560x1600p resolution in God of War 4. In RDR2, the game was able to maintain the 60 fps mark at 1920x1200p resolution.

The Radeon RX 7800M will feature similar specifications as the desktop RX 7800 XT such as 3840 shaders and Navi 32 chip but will have 12GB GDDR6 memory instead of 16GB. This also means the memory bus will be 192-bit instead of 256-bit. The company hasn’t revealed any pricing and availability information about this new dock but at the moment, it’s the fastest external GPU dock the company has to offer.
