RPCS3 Announces New Hardware Requirements for its PS3 Emulator

The new hardware requirements for RPCS3 emulator just dropped!

The popular RPCS3 PlayStation 3 emulator for Windows has finally got an update for users who want to see what hardware they will need to run it. It has been a while since the hardware requirements were changed but now you can compare your own configuration with what RPCS3 recommends.

RPCS3 lists upgraded specification requirements: More RAM and newer CPU suggestions

The well-known PlayStation 3 emulator for PC, RPCS3 just announced an update regarding the hardware requirements for the software. In a post on X, the company said it has updated the recommended and minimum hardware requirements for running the software as it has been a while since it was updated last time. The Quickstart page now shows more recent PC hardware to make sure the modern PCs can relate to the emulator’s requirements.

The recommended CPU has now been updated from 6th-gen Skylake to 10th-gen Comet Lake for Intel users. For AMD, the processor recommendation is changed from the Zen 2 Ryzen 3000 series to the Zen 3 Ryzen 5000 series. Similarly, the minimum required RAM is now 8GB compared to 4GB previously and 16GB is the recommended RAM capacity compared to the previous 8GB requirement. Most of the hardware requirements other than that are retained as they don’t affect the performance of the emulator too much.

What’s Changed?

HardwareOlder RequirementsNewer Requirements
CPU(Recommended)Intel Skylake(6th Gen), AMD Zen 2(Ryzen 3000)Intel Comet Lake(10th Gen), AMD Zen 3(Ryzen 5000)
RAM(Minimum/Recommended)4GB/8GB8GB/16GB

RPCS3 is a CPU-oriented application and needs a capable 6 cores/12-thread Intel or AMD CPU to ensure smooth gameplay. As specified in the follow-up X post, RPCS3 confirms that the updated requirements don’t mean that the emulator will now become more demanding. It’s rather an update for keeping up to date with modern PC hardware. As a lot of PC owners are running Zen 3, Comet Lake-based systems, or newer, it’s better to stay relevant with what’s better and what’s not.

Furthermore, RPCS3 claims that the emulator now offers better performance on low-end CPUs than before. The new update will ensure that newer game reports can target the new recommended baseline instead of the several-year-old generations like the Ryzen 3000 and Intel Skylake series. The company also added that they will be providing some more ‘cool’ updates soon regarding the minimum requirements.
