NVIDIA RTX 5080 And RTX 5090 Designs to Get Finalized in September With 550W and 350W TDP

Some reduction in TDP is expected

The upcoming Blackwell GPUs are supposedly going to be power-hungrier than the RTX 40 cards. The high-end RTX 5080 and 5090 are also reportedly getting a ‘D’ variant and it’s highly likely that the cards are going to be revealed on the speculated date.

New TDPs for the RTX 5080 and 5090 revealed: designs will be finalized this month

NVIDIA’s upcoming Blackwell GPUs are said to consume more power than their predecessors. As we reported recently, the RTX 50 series is supposedly power-hungrier than the Ada cards. However, a new report suggests that the TDP increase may not be as high as thought. Moreover, the high-end cards are said to get finalized in their design in September, reports Benchlife.

It is reported that the high-end RTX 5090 and RTX 5080 won’t be consuming 600W and 400W respectively. Rather they will bring somewhat lower TDPs: 550W for the RTX 5090 and 350W for the RTX 5080 as per Benchlife. Recently, @Kopite7kimi reported that the Blackwell GPUs will consume more power and said that the high-end RTX 50 cards including the 90, 80, and 70-series GPUs will have an increase in their power consumption.

With the new rumored TDPs, the cards are looking better than before at least for the RTX 5080, which is supposedly increasing by just 30W of TDP. However, the RTX 5090 is still going to introduce a 100W TDP increase, which is about 22% higher than the TDP of RTX 4090. It is further reported by Expreview that NVIDIA is planning to launch the ‘D’ variants of the RTX 5090 and 5080 for the Chinese market.

That said, the RTX 4090 D is said to discontinue in December this year and the RTX 5090 D will launch later at the end of January(via @harukaze5719). Expect the RTX 50 series cards to get introduced in CES 2024 but the mid-range and budget cards won’t be launching at the same time.
