Yamaha XSR155 With 155cc VVA Engine And FZ-RAVE Launched; Price Starts At Rs1.17 Lakh

Yamaha Motor India has introduced two new models in the 150-160cc segment: the modern-retro XSR155 and the youth-centric FZ‑RAVE. The XSR155 is priced at Rs 1,49,990 (ex-showroom Delhi) while the FZ-RAVE starts at Rs 1,17,218 (ex-showroom Delhi). The launches come as Yamaha expands both its premium and commuter offerings in the rapidly evolving Indian two-wheeler market.

Yamaha XSR155: Retro Looks With Modern Engineering

The XSR155 revives the global “Modern Retro Sport” philosophy with a round LED headlight, teardrop-fuel tank, and minimalist bodywork. Riding on Yamaha’s Deltabox frame, it features USD front forks and a linked-type Monocross rear suspension for a premium ride feel.

Under the skin, the bike is powered by a 155 cc liquid-cooled, four-valve engine with Variable Valve Actuation (VVA), producing around 13.5 kW of power and 14.2 Nm torque. It comes with a six-speed transmission, assist & slipper clutch, and dual-channel ABS with traction control. Four colour options are offered: Metallic Grey, Vivid Red, Greyish Green Metallic, and Metallic Blue, and buyers can choose between Scrambler and Café Racer accessory kits.

FZ-RAVE: Sporty Ride for Urban Youth

The FZ-RAVE joins Yamaha’s popular FZ family, aimed squarely at younger riders and daily commuting needs. It weighs just 136 kg (kerb) and carries a 13-litre fuel tank, specs that underline agility and ease in urban settings.

Powered by a 149 cc air-cooled engine generating around 9.1 kW, the FZ-RAVE features a five-speed gearbox, front and rear disc brakes, and single-channel ABS. Visually, it stands out with a full-LED projector headlamp, sculpted tank, and bold graphics in Matte Titan and Metallic Black finishes.

Why These Launches Matter

Yamaha’s dual-launch strategy taps into two distinct, though overlapping, segments: riders seeking premium design and those seeking affordable sportiness. The XSR155 addresses the growing preference in India for bikes that offer style, performance, and tech, not just function. The FZ-RAVE, meanwhile, aims to capture urban commuters who want a stylish ride with everyday usability.

From a market perspective, entering the modern-retro space with XSR155 allows Yamaha to challenge competitors who offer similar “lifestyle” motorcycles, while bolstering its portfolio for the 150-160 cc category. The FZ-RAVE fills the gap between purely commuter bikes and outright sport machines, offering a blend of design, brand heritage, and practical performance.

What to Watch Going Forward

Buyers and industry watchers should keep an eye on:

  • Booking and inventory rates: Will the colour/accessory packages drive early adoption?
  • Service and maintenance costs: Premium bikes often increase after-sales expectations.
  • Competitive response: How will rivals react in terms of pricing, features, and accessories?
  • Long-term resale and brand perception: Will Yamaha’s push into lifestyle bikes strengthen its premium-brand image?

Final Implications

With the launch of the XSR155 and FZ-RAVE, Yamaha signals both ambition and adaptability. The company is not just chasing volume but also experience, recognising that Indian riders are increasingly valuing design, ride-quality, and brand resonance alongside everyday utility. These models may not just sell on specs, but on identity, and that identity could shape Yamaha’s motorcycle strategy in India for years to come.
