Z890 Motherboards to Feature Intel Default Profile Out of the Box

Intel doesn't want to take any risks

As we move forward from Intel 14th gen to Arrow Lake CPUs, Intel and the motherboard partners have started preparing their products to ensure better optimization. Intel’s instability issue shouldn’t appear with Arrow Lake and with this step, users are likely going to be on the safe side.

Motherboard manufacturers to ship Z890 motherboards with Intel Default Profile

Looks like Intel doesn’t want to take any risks with the upcoming Arrow Lake processors. The company has met with severe backlash since the instability issues with its 13th and 14th-generation processors started to appear more than a year ago. Intel did release the microcode and is taking care of the RMA and stuff but for the Arrow Lake launch, it is proceeding with Intel Default Profile for its motherboard partners.

Benchlife reports that when the embargo on Arrow Lake processors is lifted, reviewers will be allowed to showcase the Z890 motherboards. Furthermore, these motherboards will be shipped with Intel Default Profile, which is a measure to keep the voltage under control for the processors. As reported by Benchlife,

…the Intel Z890 chip motherboard factory will be based on the Intel Default Profile, but the BIOS allows the motherboard factory to add other settings such as Extreme Profile for users to choose.

So, it’s clear that most motherboards will be shipped with Intel Default Profile but motherboard vendors are allowed to add other profiles such as ‘Extreme Profile’ for the users. With the Intel Default Profile, the default BIOS profile will match Intel’s recommended settings for the users. While Intel claimed that the Arrow Lake processors won’t suffer from the Vmin Instability issue, it wants its users to go with the default profile out of the box.

The Arrow Lake chips were set to launch on 17th October but have recently been rescheduled to launch on 24th October. It gives Intel and its motherboard partners enough time to get things ready. Several motherboard makers have teased their Z890 motherboards already and this seems to be the only chance Intel has to recover from the losses incurred due to the faulty 13th and 14th gen processors.
