AM5 Dominates in Motherboard Sales: Sells Over 4X More Than LGA 1700 in EU

AMD continues its dominance with AM5 platform

Mindfactory stats show that AMD is far ahead in terms of selling the AM5 motherboards than Intel is with its LGA 1700 motherboards. This is also true in most parts of the world. While AMD Ryzen 9000 CPUs didn’t see a good start, the Ryzen 7000 CPUs are doing quite well, which is why the AM5 platform is still selling like hotcakes as the best motherboards.

AM5 motherboards see incredible sales in the EU and so does the North American Region

AMD’s AM5 platform has taken over Intel’s LGA 1700 platform successfully since its launch in 2022. This is not the first time we have seen AMD outperforming Intel in motherboard sales but the recent stats show that AMD is maintaining its dominance continuously week after week. Even after the mediocre launch of Ryzen 9000 CPUs, the AM5 motherboard sales did not see any loss whatsoever.

TechEpiphany reports that in the EU region, the retail website Mindfactory has sold 85.58% AMD motherboards compared to just 14.42% Intel motherboards. These include the AM5, AM4, LGA 1700, and LGA 1200 motherboards. Since the launch of the AM5 platform, the sales of AM5 motherboards have almost tripled and now AMD sits at 86.42% of total revenue from Mindfactory.

AM5 motherboards now account for almost 61% of sales with AM4 coming in second place with 24% of sales and Intel’s LGA 1700 in the third with 14%. LGA 1200 motherboards are almost dead with just 0.4%, however, by looking at the graph, one can see that the LGA 1700 is going down every week.

The trend is pretty close to the North American region as well. Even though we don’t have the exact number of units sold by AMD and Intel, both Amazon and Newegg have AM5 motherboards as the best-selling ones on the retail websites. Out of the top 10 best-selling motherboards on Amazon.com, 9 are from AMD, out of which 5 are AM5, 4 are AM4, and 1 is Intel. The next best-selling motherboards comprise mostly AMD motherboards, especially with B650/B650E chipsets.

On Newegg, AM5 outperforms the LGA 1700 motherboards convincingly. This is a clear dominance by AMD over Intel in years but motherboards aren’t the only one. The recent CPU sales chart shows that AMD CPUs are outselling Intel CPUs by a similar margin on Mindfactory. Even on Amazon and Newegg, AMD continues its dominance with both Zen 3 and Zen 4-based CPUs. However, the Zen 5 CPUs failed to go at the same pace due to their marginal increase in performance over the predecessors.

Intel has its chance with the Arrow Lake S desktop processors which should be available in October. With that, Intel will also launch its newer LGA 1851 platform. If Arrow Lake CPUs succeed in outperforming Ryzen 9000 chips by a good margin and provide better value, the tables can turn in favor of Intel despite its poor performance at the moment. However, from the recently leaked benchmarks of Arrow Lake CPUs on Geekbench, it doesn’t look like Intel is in a great position.
