Black Myth Wukong Breaks 2 Million Concurrent Players Mark on the First Day

The game has received Overwhelmingly Positive reviews

The game has broken all the records for the highest number of concurrent players any single-player Steam game has ever seen. Being one of the most wishlisted games on Steam in recent days, Black Myth: Wukong already gave indications for being one of the most anticipated games of all time.

With over 2 million concurrent players just hours after the launch, Black Myth makes history

Black Myth: Wukong, developed by Game Science was launched today to the reception of an overwhelming interest among gamers around the world. As of the time of writing this post, the game has crossed 2 million concurrent players according to Steam Database, or 2.1 million to be more accurate, making history on the Steam store.

The game already crossed the 1 million concurrent players mark within the first 6 hours of its launch and crossed the 2 million mark after 11 hours. The game has continuously risen to the top since its launch and has generated over 60 thousand reviews on its Steam Page. At the moment, the game received 96% of total positive reviews, resulting in an Overwhelmingly Positive tag for itself.

This mythical, action RPG game excels in its hack-and-slash combat with an exciting storyline, making itself a tough competitor to ‘souls-like’ games. However, games like Dark Souls or Elden Rings didn’t get this popular even though they did generate hundreds of thousands of concurrent players if we consider their all-time peak. The Dark Souls 3 ended up with around 129K all-time peak concurrent players but Elden Ring was close to 1 million. The former is quite older than the latter but Black Myth is showing its supremacy like none other.

The current record holder for the most concurrent players according to Steam charts is PUBG for breaking the 3 million mark. However, the game is down to around 500-600K concurrent players on average, which is still pretty high. The next is Counter-Strike 2, which hit about 1.8 million concurrent players in May 2023. However, both these titles are online multiplayer games while Black Myth: Wukong strictly offers a single-player gaming experience.

Many GPU manufacturers have also started to make special editions related to Black Myth and it looks like the game will enjoy being the best seller on Steam for quite some time. Black Myth is available on the Steam store as well as on the latest gaming consoles, including PlayStation 5, XBox Series S and X. This single-player title is based on a Chinese Mythology where the protagonist travels to the West through beautiful and mysterious landscapes in search of the obscured truth.
